Great Events That Happen Every Year

Saturday closes to the actual day (March 5, 1773) every year. In 2010 it will be March 6.
Boston, right outside of the Old State House. 7pm. See bostonhistory.org (under events) for more.

Liberty Pole Capping, Bedford, MA
Mid April (around the 11th) every year
BEDFORD, MA pole capping celebration. One of a kind event! April 11, 2009, 10am (or there-abouts for following years, done on a Sat morning). Only occasion that all the militia and music groups from all the towns get together. A short parade, a liberty pole capping ceremony, a few British troops to disrupt the events, really a sight to see. A fun way to spend the morning and soak in our colonial heritage. Check the battleroad.org or Sudburyancients.org websites for more information. Usually this event is followed by on the same day with a commemoration event at Meriam’s Corner in Concord, 1pm.

March to Old North Bridge – Sudbury to Concord, MA
April 19 every year (always on the actual day)
Join the Sudbury Fife & Drum and Sudbury Militia on a 10 mile march from Sudbury Center. Music played the entire way. This event has been going on since 1964. Details: 6am stepoff, march from Sudbury Center (town hall) to the Old North Bridge in Concord, arrive 10am. Lunch and more music at the Wayside always follows.

Battle Road - Concord-Lexington, MA
Long Weekend around the April 19th each year
Lexington battle on the green, encampment at Hartwell Tavern, fife & drum music, dances, and skirmishes held throughout this weekend. Check battleroad.org or the Minuteman National Park (nps.gov/mima/partriots-day.htm) for more information.

Old North Church, March Paul Revere to his boat – Boston, MA
Mid April every year
Details: Always or usually on the Sunday preceding April 15. Time: 8:00pm, Location: Just outside Old North Church. Check the Old North Church website for more detail or send a note.

Boston Tea Party (1773)
Mid December (Sunday on our about the 16th, the actual day) every year
Details: 5:30pm at the Old South Meeting House. Tickets required to get inside (oldsouthmeetinghouse.org). It is on Dec 13, in 2009.
Weekly Fife and Drum Music – Wayside Inn, Sudbury, MA
Every Wednesday night from late April to end of September from 7:30-9 (then we adjourn to the bar-room for more playing, usually till around 12pm.
Colonial Faire, Wayside Inn, Sudbury, MA
Last Sat of September. 20 fife and drum groups, colonial food and vendors, autumn colors, irish session that night, just a great day to relax and see something different.

12th Night Ball – Just after Christmas. Jan 6th in 2010. Contra dancing & socializing.
Regimental Ball – Just after the April 19th march to Concord, one or about April 23. Contra dancing & socializing.
Ordinary Evening- Early March (~6th), an evening of improptu music and song.
Other Events Outside the Area Worth Considering:
Gadsby Day, Providence, RI. Mid June every year.
Birthnight Ball, Gadsby Tavern, Alexandria, VA. Mid Feburary, has been going on for 274 years. Check website for date (sells out, so stay on top of this one). Colonial music, dance, food.
Fort Ticonderoga French and Indian War Weekend (mid June) and Revolutionary War Weekend (mid Sept). Great events with lots of color and beautiful scenario. Study the local history before you go so you really can appreciate this one more.
